WRITING CONTEST TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  1. This competition is open to all full or part-time law students with the exception of L.L.M. students.
  2. Entries must be submitted electronically as an e-mail attachment to joltwritingcomp@richmond.edu. The subject line of the email should read: “Writing Competition Submission.” Each submission should be in either Microsoft Word or Corel WordPerfect format, although the Journal prefers Microsoft Word. The body of the e-mail should specify the author's name, address, the law school the author is attending, and the author's expected date of graduation. The author's name should not appear anywhere on the work being submitted.
  3. All entries must be between 20 and 35 pages in length, double spaced, and must be the original, unpublished academic work of the person submitting the entry. All entries must be in 12 point Times New Roman font and must have default 1 inch margins all around. Please number your pages.
  4. All citations must be in accordance with the rules of The Bluebook, A Uniform System of Citation, Eighteenth Edition.
  5. It is recommended that all citations be in the form of footnotes rather than endnotes.
  6. All entries must be received by 5 pm (Eastern Time) on February 8, 2008. It is advisable that contest entrants save a copy of the submission e-mail for proof of delivery time and date.
  7. All entries will be assigned a random, anonymous number for judging purposes.
  8. The Richmond Journal of Law &Technology reserves the right of first refusal for publication of all works submitted. No work submitted as an entry in this contest may be published in any form until the contest has ended and the winners have been named. If you decide to have your work published in another publication, you must notify the Journal and remove your submission from consideration.
  9. After the contest has ended and the winners have been named, the Richmond Journal of Law & Technology reserves the right of first refusal for publication with respect to the winning entry. All other entries will be automatically released at the time that the winners are named.
  10. Winners will be notified by e-mail after all judging is complete. Winners will be announced no later than April 15, 2008.
  11. By submitting a work in this contest, the entrant submitting that work agrees to be bound by the rules, terms, and conditions governing the contest and the award of any prizes in this contest.
  12. All entrants accepting prizes in this contest agree by such acceptance to allow the Richmond Journal of Law &Technology to publish their works in the Journal at the discretion of the Editorial Board, and further agree to be bound by the publication agreement required by the Journal for such publication.
  13. The Editorial Board of the Richmond Journal of Law &Technology reserves the right to modify, supplement, or interpret these rules as it deems necessary.
